    Land:
"Green Point was formerly called Grassy Point. John Trumpour was the first settler there and kept a Public House, the first in the Township."

[Since there were approximately 9 tombstones and footstones in this cemetery that were illegible, John Trumpour and his wife could be buried there.]

    Burial:
John could be buried in the Top of the Hill cemetery. This burying ground "was located on County Road 15 (concession 1, SWGP, lot 40 (County Road 15) however nothing remains at the site. Permission was apparently received to build a house upon the property, and this still stands." The Wanamakers recorded 3 burials here. "At one time nearly all of the family [Trumpour] belonged to the Society of Friends".

John's house at Grassy Point was recorded in Hans Waltimeyer's diary in 1797 as being a place where people stayed and where the Militia trained annually. In 1799, Waltimeyer mentions that Grassy Point used to be an Indian village. "Even though Trumpour's house is here now, they still come occasionally to stay a while".

"John Trumpour, late of Esopus in the State of New York, prays to be admitted as a settler in this district and to have 200 acres of land assigned. He is brother to Paul Trumpour of Adolphus Town, settled under the Instructions of 1783 and, being otherwise a person of good character, a certificate is granted him for 200 acres and the oath of allegiance administered."

    Petition for land:
John petitioned for land as a Loyalist and asked for land in the Ninth Township [Murray Township?]. He said that he was "always firmly attached to the British Government and Constitution" and "has come to this settlement with a view to become an inhabitant of it".

    Petition for land:
This was referred to in the petition by his son, John Trumpour Junior, in 1848 for the property in Murray Township.

    Petition for land:
John petitioned for more land as Lord Dorchester's bounty and 50 acres for each member of his family making up 600 acres. He included an affidavit from Peter Van Alstine, Justice of the Peace, saying that John had taken the Oath that the contents of the petition were "true in substance and matter of fact". The Committee replied that John had to "state the number of children which he had in this province previous to 1789".

    Designation:
Tina's petition says that "your petitioner is the daughter of John Trumpour Senr. of the Township of Sophiasburgh, a U. E. Loyalist".

    Family history:
"The story is told that when Robert [Curlett] joined the American army his father-in-law, John Trumpour, a dedicated United Empire Loyalist, was so upset that he disowned the Curlett family and influenced the Government to expropriate Robert's land. To date, we have not been able to confirm or refute this story. However, circumstantial evidence tends to refute it. The four sons of Robert Emmet [Curlett] all stayed in the Green Point area. The second son, John [Curlett] lived on land close to where Robert's distillery was said to have been and on land owned by his grandfather."

John married Elizabeth B?HR in 1773 in New York, British Colonies in America. Elizabeth (daughter of Hermannus B?R and Maria Eva) was born on 3 Mar 1757 in Loonenburg, New York, British Colonies in America; was christened on 3 Mar 1757 in Loonenburg, New York, British Colonies in America; died in 1840 in Sophiasburgh Township, Prince Edward County, Upper Canada, Canada; was buried in 1840 in Sophiasburgh Township, Prince Edward County, Upper Canada, Canada. Notes:

    Petition for land:
The petition was apparently lost according to a petition made by her eldest son, John T. Hendricks. On September 2, 1839 he petitioned for land as the son of Betsey Hendricks, who was Elizabeth Trumpour, the daughter of Loyalist John Trumpour. In his petition he said that his mother had petitioned for land in about 1817, but had not received any reply. She had "departed this life a short time thereafter", before they realized that the petition had been lost. John asked that a grant of 200 acres of land be made in the name of the late Betsey Hendricks. The petition was recommended and forwarded [to the Land Board?] on October 18, 1839.

    Death:
In the land petition of her son, John Trumpour Hendricks, made September 2, 1839, there was a statement that the said Betsey Hendricks died shortly after presenting her own land petition in 1817 or 1818. Her original petition was lost. Also with John T. Hendricks' petition is an affidavit made on September 9, 1839 by his father, James Hendricks (husband of Betsey Hendricks), who stated that "Betsey had been deceased now nearly twenty years".

    Land petition:
Her original petition made on January 13, 1818 in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, was apparently lost and was not found until June 20, 1825. She may have died by this time.

Way and Mary Osborne, this seems to be incorrect. It was this William Trumpour's nephew, William Trumpour (son of Paul Trumpour and Catherine Doxsee) who married Jane Way.

His petition was received June 6, 1798 and read in council on June 8, 1798. He was recommended for 200 acres with the warrant being issued on July 10, 1798.

    Marriage witness:
[There were others named "John Trumpour" around at this time, but it was likely her father who was the witness.] The other marriage witness was William Stinson.

    Land petition:
He was petitioning for his father's land grant of 200 acres lot 16 concession 9 in Murrary township, then in Newcastle District. Family history:
John Trumpour Junior petitioned at this time for his father's land in Murray to the Heir and Devisee Committee - as his father's eldest son and heir-at-law.

    Petition for land:
This was referred to in his petition in 1848 for the property in Murray Township.

    Petition for land:
He petitioned to get the Patent for concession 9, lot 16 in Murray Township. He had been assigned this land as his father's heir at law and oldest son by the Heir and Devisee Commission in July 1840 in claim 349. Originally the lot had been awarded to his father John Trumpour in July 1797 as 200 acres of Family Land and 142 acres ungranted. However, neither John Senior or John Junior had made any improvements according to the inspection report of the local District Agent, so the Crown Land Department in Montreal decided that John should not get the land title. • Petition for land: 2 Sep 1839, Toronto, York County, Upper Canada, Canada

    Notes:

    Petition for land:
John petitioned for land as the son of Betsey Hendricks, who was Elizabeth Trumpour, daughter of Loyalist John Trumpour. Betsey had petitioned for land in about 1817, but had not received any reply. She had "departed this life a short time thereafter", before they realized that the petition had been lost. John asked that a grant of 200 acres of land be made in the name of the late Betsey Hendricks. He was her "heir at law".
He likely went to Toronto to present the petition, but if says that he is "of Murray", that is Murray township, Newcastle District.
John includes a document from his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Trumpour, who was the mother of Betsey Hendricks and the widow of John Trumpour. Archibald McFaul, commissioner, in Wellington, witnessed the document of Elizabeth Trumpour on September 9, 1839.
Also included was a document from John's father, James Hendricks, who described the original petition process, and that the petition was lost or mislaid. James described his son, John T. Hendricks, as Betsey's eldest surviving descendant. James' sworn statement was witnessed by J. N. Hurst, J. P. of the Home District, in Toronto, on September 3, 1839.
The petition was recommended and forwarded [to the Land Board?] on October 18, 1839.

"The following is a well-authenitcated statement of a "catch" which was doubtless a record breaker at the time when whitefish were plentiful in the lake. It occurred on an evening in July, 1857, when, as was the custom when a seine was to be hauled, men for miles around were gathered on the beach at Wellington. The owner of the seine, J. Rickerson Trumpour, had marshalled his men and the nets were in constant use until dawn, by which time forty thousand whitefish had been taken; the largest haul ever known to have been made at this particular place. W. H. Garrett, the grandson of Isaac, assisted on this memorable occasion, by taking out a boat and holding up the cork line of the seine, over which the net being full, the fish were escaping. His share was to be all the fish he wanted; and he filled his boat to the number of about seven hundred."
