    W. P. Thompson, his son, described Wesley as "a very tall, thin man with a long face, the boney structure of which was not concealed by a thin red beard."

    His son, W. P. Thompson, described his character. "He was a very stern, austere man and very religious, a staunch, old-fashioned Methodist and active in that church. He conducted family prayers and bible reading morning and night. He had no vices that I know of and no humor in his make-up."

    W. P. Thompson recorded his family life. "He was very strict with his children; permitted no games on Sunday and no reading except of a religious paper. There was little affection between him and them. I cannot recall any demonstrations of affection for mother or any of the children. We did not fear him; he never punished ups physically."

    "I cannot recall any social, political, or community enterprises in which he took part except church work."

    Education:
    His education "was confined to the elementary grades like that of all farm boys of the time, but as a man he seemed to be better educated than his neigbors, using good English with none of the ordinary mistakes. He owned only two books, the bible and a history of the North West Rebellion. But he was a regular subscriber to the Toronto "Globe" and the Montreal "Witness" (a weekly) and read them thoroughly; he often read long passages (political speeches, etc) from them aloud to the family. At that time the "Globe" reported political speeches verbatim in full."

    Since the farm was on good land, he was fairly prosperous. "He built a fine large house in 1894."
