    Vincent Bowerman was the son of Thomas Bowerman and his first wife, Sarah Vincent.

    According to Levi Bowerman, "my father was always firmly established in their [Friends] principles and a diligent attender of their meetings and careful to have his family go with him. They went to Adolphustown for a number of years. At this time they belonged to Nine Partners Quarterly meeting. Then they got a meeting at West Lake held once in two weeks in Cornelius Blount's log house and in warm weather in his log barn, and then they got a monthly meeting in Adolphustown and a Preparative there and at West Lake. There were no divisions or subdivisions in the society at that time".

    Childhood:
    Vincent was motherless and was "placed under the care of Daniel and Elizabeth Pettit, where I remained until I was two years old". They used a sap trough for a cradle.

    Birth:
    Thomas and Sarah moved "over on the West Lake shore near where Hiram Tubbs now lives and there, I was born the 21st of 5th month 1791".

    Childhood:
    Vincent moved back to his father's house. His father had gone to Duchess County and returned with his second wife.

    Farming:
    At the age of nineteen, in 1810, Vincent, "with the assistance of his step-mother, took charge of all the business, and oversight of nine children (his half brothers and half sisters) and the 1430 acres of land". Since "at that time the oldest son heired all the real estate property, the land was divided among the family and he signed all the deeds to entire satisfaction. Except the oldest brother".

    Religion:
    He was listed, with his wife Nancy, as a member of the West Lake Meeting of the West Lake Monthly Meeting.

    Family history:
    Vincent left a manuscript titled "A Short History of the Life of Thomas Bowerman, as related by his son, Vincent".

    Vincent moved to Bloomfield in 1879.

    When Vincent died, he had "lived until the whole family was buried".

    Death:
    At his death, Vincent was aged 93 years 7 months and 2 days.

    Thomas Bowerman's birth and death dates, according to ?i?Pioneer Life on the Bay of Quinte?/i? (page 131) were 1760 and 1810.

    Religion:
    According to Levi Bowerman, Thomas did not belong to any religious denomination. However, all of his sons and one of his daughters (Lydia) joined "Friends by request".

    Birth:
    Vincent Bowerman's manuscript of 2 November 1870 gives the birth date as 3rd month 20th 1761.

    Emigration:
    Thomas lived in Duchess County "until he was grown". "During the Revolution war he remained attached to the King's party and as soon as peace was proclaimed he came to Canada".

    Immigration:
    Thomas married Sarah Vincent and "settled on the North Shore of the little lake in the Thompson place near where Dyer Ogden now lives. He soon left it and moved over on the West Lake shore near where Hiram Tubbs now lives".

    Marriage:
    Thomas "went to Duchess County and returned with his second wife, Maturah".

    Residence:
    Thomas, Maturah and Vincent moved "over on the north shore of the lake" and "settled on the farm lot No. 1 first concession military tract containing about 230 acres of entire wild land". Thomas bought the land from "Major Henry Young for about $ 100 and built a log house 20 by 22 down by the spring, w_uth of the road where he lived until about the year 1806". Then he built "the frame two storey house 30 x 40, which stood until 1879 when it was taken down by the present owner William S. Hubbs and Abraham Saylor". Vincent claimed that "Uncle Amos and Uncle Josiah raised both their families [in this house] , each having one half and one half the farm. Thomas used "a log barn for eith or nine years. He built a frame barn in the year 1800.John Bull and Cyrus Richman were carpenters used".

    Farming:
    Thomas "frequently let out three year old cattle to be broke and return them at the age of seven, and heifers the same way. On their return, he sold them and bought land. He continued buying until he had got twelve hundred acres beside the homestead".

    Burial:
    He was "brought home and buried in the old Friends Burying Ground by C. G. Bowerman".

    Death:
    Thomas "went to Quebec in the year 1810, with a raft of staves and was taken sick on his return home at Montreal with typhoid fever, and died at Kingston".

    In his manuscript, M.Y. Williams says that Ichabod "seems to have been a descendant from one of three brothers that emigrated from England to one of the Eastern States".

    Family history:
    He was the son of Thomas Bowerman and wife. He had 8 siblings: Judah Bowerman, Davis Bowerman, Silas Bowerman, Joseph Bowerman, Sarah Bowerman, Eliza Bowerman, Peace Bowerman, and Deborah Bowerman. Ichabod was born in the Bay Colony in 1721. He married Lydia Mott about 1744 and Jane Richmond in 1757. With his wife Lydia Mott, he had 6 children: Timothy Bowerman, Elizabeth Bowerman, David Bowerman, Jane Bowerman, Hannah Bowerman and Sarah Bowerman.
