    Janice Ostrander Donato has a letter from Arthur Laughton, who was in East Selkirk, Province of Manitoba, to his nephew, George Wildman Laughton, in Colorado. The letter was written 2 August 1888. Arthur says "In my last letter mother [Sarah Hopkins Laughton] was telling about George and Jess coming to Canada and living there but did not hear any more."

He specified that he be buried in the churchyard at Renhold "as close to my father's remains as possible and let a headstone be erected to my memory". The sale of his property and effects was to provide for his wife, then at her death to be devided among his children, George, Leonard, Jesse, Peter, Amos, Alfred, Frederick, and Ann (wife of Charles Westley Wildman). The will was witnessed by Leigh Spencer, the Vicar of Renhold, and Philadelphia Rosa Spencer, wife of the Vicar. The will was in the Northampton County Record Office.

    The gravestone in the churchyard cemetery of All Saints Church, Renhold, reads "Sacred to the memory of Samuel Laughton / Born October 1st 1812 / Died August 25th 1891 / Upwards of 30 years Clerk of this Parish".

    Samuel made a codicil to his previous will. He added that he was "of Renhold, Bedford, now residing at No. 70 Aylesbury Street, Wolverton". He appointed his son, Leonard, and his brother, William, as executors to his will dated 31 March 1882. The witnesses were William Welch of 5 Aylesbury Street, Wolverton, carpenter, and George Wildman, 11 Stratford Road, Wolverton, carpenter and joiner. This will was proved on 17 September 1891. His estate was valued as ? 82 " 9 " 9 gross.

    Samuel was "of Wolverton, late of Renhold, aged 78 years" when he was buried. The burial service was conducted by H. Rudkin, Vicar. The Vicar also noted that "deceased was for nearly 40 years Parish Clerk of Renhold".
