    Physical Description:
    W. P. Thompson, his son, described Wesley as "a very tall, thin man with a long face, the boney structure of which was not concealed by a thin red beard."

    Character:
His son, W. P. Thompson, described his character. "He was a very stern, austere man and very religious, a staunch, old-fashioned Methodist and active in that church. He conducted family prayers and bible reading morning and night. He had no vices that I know of and no humor in his make-up."

    Family:
    W. P. Thompson recorded his family life. "He was very strict with his children; permitted no games on Sunday and no reading except of a religious paper. There was little affection between him and them. I cannot recall any demonstrations of affection for mother or any of the children. We did not fear him; he never punished ups physically."

    Education:
His education "was confined to the elementary grades like that of all farm boys of the time, but as a man he seemed to be better educated than his neigbors, using good English with none of the ordinary mistakes. He owned only two books, the bible and a history of the North West Rebellion. But he was a regular subscriber to the Toronto "Globe" and the Montreal "Witness" (a weekly) and read them thoroughly; he often read long passages (political speeches, etc) from them aloud to the family. At that time the "Globe" reported political speeches verbatim in full."

    Residence:
Since the farm was on good land, he was fairly prosperous. "He built a fine large house in 1894."
